UNIT 11 THE ROLE OF ERROR

UNIT 11 THE ROLE OF ERROR

When studying this unit I found out that making mistakes must not be consider a taboo or a bad result from teaching. Here we understand that mistakes are part of learning and play an important role when teaching because that is when you realize the results of your teaching and also you can see the development of the learner.

There is a categorization of mistakes they can be consider as errors, that is when learners try to use language beyond their level of current knowledge, and it is because they are still processing the new information.
Then, there are slips that generally are the result of tiredness and they do not realize when they do this, and it can be inferred that they did not simply pay attention to what they were saying.
In addition, there is another factor that make learners be confused and this is interference of the mother tongue when learners use lexis or grammatical rules from their mother tongue, and this also may be cause by overgeneralization  when they learn a rule and apply it to everything.
In this case, I will take errors as an advantage to help my students and realize where they are weak and help them to improve their language by looking at their own errors, and notice them in order to avoid fossilization.

  2. Great job Criss! Your analysis is clearly stated and I strongly agree when you say that teachers should take errors that students do as an advantage for choosing different ways or methods to teach. The video you´ve included provides a deep explanation about this topic and supports the ideas you´ve included above.

  3. Your reflection about the unit is very clear and I agree with you regarding teachers need to create intrinsic and extrinsic motivation on learners who are learning a second language.
