UNIT12 DIFFERENCES BETWEEN L1 AND L2 LEARNING
Here we recognized the
differences between languages 1 and 2. First, the context in which each language is acquired is crucial
because they are set in different ways. Then, there is a huge difference
starting from the age in
which learners acquire each one. L1 starts since the childhood when the learner is a baby and for L2 it may start
lately at school.
L1 is learnt by exposure learners hear the
language and pick it up. Meanwhile for L2 it is mostly taught by focusing on
form or specific language or
individual words.
Also for L1 learners may get
lots of praise when using language
and this motivate them intrinsically. On the other hand for L2 language learners
are guided by controlled practice.
Sometimes, talking about L2,
learners may feel not motivated but the job of the teacher is to create intrinsic
and extrinsic motivation for them, by building confidence in the classroom.

Good!
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your reflection I could clearly deleat my doubts. You used important terms such as L1, L2, motivation, confidence, etc which make reading perfectly comprehended. The resouces you shared with us are excellent, they state the stages to follow whrn teaching a second language as well as extra data we need.
I like your commenting on this unit. It reflects what you have learned on it. Besides, videos about this topic are very gripping.
ReplyDeleteCris, perfect job! Thanks for sharing those videos, they are so usuful, understandable and interesting!!
ReplyDeleteDear Cristina,
ReplyDeleteI have always believed that L1-L2 comparison is a valuable tool both for processing reasons and making my job easier. When I think about one reason why we have ‘grown up’ somehow against using the L1 in the classroom it could be due to our training.
Good article !!!
